Wattline monitors energy use for commercial buildings. Managers received forty alerts a day and acknowledged almost none. We interviewed nine managers, found the alerts were mostly right but impossible to prioritize, and redesigned the dashboard around a floor heatmap, a severity-sorted alert panel and thresholds the manager sets in a form they understand.
Alerts are now acknowledged in under three minutes on average, and the mobile summary gets opened more than the desktop dashboard.
